Currently associate professor of media design at the School of Art, Media, and Technology at The New School's Parsons School of Design. Previously served as director of the MFA Design and Technology graduate program (2010-2013) leading a dynamic and diverse faculty and student body designing and building near futures. Co-founded Glossy.io (2013-2015), an A.I. brain learning popular culture through magazines, born at NYC Media Lab, backed by Hearst Corporation, and incubated at the Made in NY Media Center by IFP. Founded the Center for Mobile Creativity, to support research grants from MacArthur Foundation, National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health, Department of Education, Pearson Foundation, EPFL+ECAL, and Nokia Research Centers. Earned MFA Design and Technology at Parsons in 2000 and BA Art History and Religion with Highest Honors at Bowdoin College in 1997. Married with two children, living in Brooklyn. Michael Phillips is the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and Executive Vice President at Rosenthal Collins Group, LLC. In this capacity, he serves as Co-Executive of the Information Technology Group and senior advisor to the Chairman / CEO, providing oversight of various aspects of Operational Risk Management, including Information Assurance and Privacy.
Owner of the Information Security consulting practice, Luminant Group, LLC he specializes as a virtual Chief Information Security Officer (vCISO) for small to medium-sized businesses that cannot afford to put someone full-time on staff to oversee cyber-security and associated regulatory compliance matters. He also serves as a Strategic Advisor for an early stage (Seed, Series A, and Series B) venture capital firm, OCA Ventures III, L.P.
Prior to joining RCG, Michael served in several Information Security Executive roles including the Assistant Vice President & Information Security Officer (ISO) of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and the Director of IT Security for the Americas at UBS (formerly Swiss Bank Corp.).
Michael received his first Technology Degree from DeVry Institute of Technology, a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications & Computer Sciences from Northwestern University and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the Northwestern Kellogg Graduate School of Management.
An active member of InfraGard, High Tech Crime Consortium, Chicago Electronic Crimes Task Force, etc., Michael also holds the C|CISO, CISSP, CISA, NSA IAM Certifications and serves on the Board of Directors of the Arts & Business Council of Chicago.
Shaum is a senior regulatory affairs associate with a background in engineering, intellectual property, and privacy law. Currently his work focuses on navigating the global regulatory landscape to help patients gain access to life saving medicines. Shaum has assisted clients with patent, trademark, and copyright matters and previously served as privacy counsel for a start up social media company. In addition, he has guest lectured at the University of Chicago on technology law. Shaum is a member of the Intellectual Property Law Association of Chicago.
